EPA to Propose Action to Reduce Risk of BBP, DBP, DCHP, DEHP and DIBP

EPA says it is planning to propose a "risk management regulatory action" that would address its finding of an unreasonable risk of injury to health or the environment from five chemical substances -- Butyl Benzyl Phthalate (BBP), Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), Dicyclohexyl Phthalate (DCHP), Diethylhexyl Phthalate (DEHP), and Diisobutyl Phthalate (DIBP), it said in a Federal Register notice.

The substances are phthalates that are used as plasticizers in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and non-PVC plastics, as well as in adhesives, sealants, paints, coatings, rubbers, and other applications. In December 2019, EPA had designated these chemicals as high-priority chemical substances for risk evaluation under the TSCA.
