Resolution Would Block Arms Sales to Taiwan
Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., on Jan. 5 introduced a joint resolution of disapproval for proposed military sales to Taiwan, but it was not immediately clear which defense articles and services would be targeted.

The text of the resolution has not been publicly released yet, and Paul's office did not respond to a request for more information. Paul declined to comment, saying he was late for a meeting.
The resolution was referred to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Arms sales to Taiwan enjoy strong support in Congress, so Paul's resolution could face an uphill battle.
The State Department in December approved eight possible military sales to Taiwan totaling more than $10 billion (see 2512180008).
