ITC Begins Section 337 Investigation on Smartwatches
The International Trade Commission began a Section 337 investigation on allegations that Apple, Samsung, Google and Garmin are importing and selling smartwatches that infringe patents held by UnaliWear (ITC Inv. No. 337-TA-1477), it said in a Jan. 8 press release.

The complaint was filed in December and seeks a limited exclusion order and cease and desist orders against the respondents to bar from entry "certain wearable devices with fall detection and components thereof" that violate the complainant's patents (see 2512160012).
In the complaint, UnaliWear said that its products are "wearable devices adapted to monitor a wearer’s physical activity patterns and to provide assistance to the wearer when a need for assistance is indicated."
