CBP determined that importer Zinus US evaded an antidumping duty order covering wooden bedroom furniture from China by making "material false statements or omissions," it said in a notice released July 28. The agency said there was "substantial evidence" showing Zinus imported Chinese-origin furniture by using general product descriptions and misclassifying the furniture as non-covered merchandise.
The International Trade Commission is beginning a Section 337 investigation based on allegations that wireless communication devices imported by several companies are infringing patents held by Bell Northern Research (ITC Inv. No. 337-TA-1367), it said in a notice published July 27. In a complaint filed in June (see 2306260004), Bell alleged NXP Semiconductors, Laird Connectivity, Qualcomm Technologies, MediaTek and ASUSTek Computer are importing products that involve technologies related to the operation of mobile terminals in multiple input multiple output wireless networks, means of compatibility with legacy devices with different standards, and improvements in wireless communication systems transmitting feedback. In the investigation, the ITC will consider whether to issue a limited exclusion order and cease and desist orders banning import and sale of infringing merchandise.
The government correctly classified counterweights for mini-excavators as "backhoe" parts, rendering them ineligible for a Section 301 tariff exclusion, CIT Judge Jane Restani ruled in a July 21 opinion.

Comments are due to the International Trade Commission by July 28 in a potential Section 337 investigation on imported LED lighting devices and power units, the ITC said in a Federal Register notice. A July 14 complaint by lighting company Signify North America alleged that Ohio-based Current Lighting Solutions imports LED fixtures, luminaires, downlights and bulbs, along with LED drivers and power supplies, that infringe on three of Signify's patents. Signify asked the ITC for a permanent limited exclusion order and cease-and-desist order against Current.
Comments are due to the International Trade Commission by July 27 regarding a possible Section 337 investigation on imported power converter modules used in computing systems, the agency said in a Federal Register notice.
