India's Department of Commerce has announced that India’s December 2010 exports were valued at $22,500 million, 36.4 percent higher than in December 2009, and its imports, valued at $25,130, showed a negative growth of 11.1 percent from December 2009 levels. The cumulative value of exports from April-December 2010 was $164,707 million, a growth of 29.5 percent, and $246,724 for imports, a 19.01 percent growth, over the same period last year.

Vietnam Customs announced that the Prime Minister has asked relevant government entities to strengthen and enhance their anti-smuggling, counterfeit goods and trade fraud activities, through inspection and control of key locations and sectors. He requested that efforts be enhanced in gate areas, international sea ports, border economic zones, and trade zones where there are many import-export activities.
Press reports state that recently elected President Alassane Ouattara of Ivory Coast has called for a one month trade ban on cocoa, as the outgoing President has refused to step down from office after losing the November 2010 election. The U.S. company Cargill has suspended its Ivory Coast cocoa exports as a result.

China's Ministry of Commerce reports that China has slashed its import tariff on some electronic products, such as laptops and digital cameras, by 50 percent, benefiting multinational companies, including Hewlett-Packard Co (HP) and Dell Inc, and stimulating their sales in the world's fastest-growing IT market. According to a statement posted on the Ministry of Finance's website on Thursday, the import tariff on computers, digital video recorders and cameras will fall from 20 percent to 10 percent starting Jan 27.
