China's Ministry of Commerce stated on January 24, 2011, that Chinese importers of U.S. and European Union caprolactam, the precursor to Nylon 6 widely used in synthetic polymer, will have to put down a security deposit from January 25, 2011. According to a ministry statement, a preliminary ruling stated caprolactam from the countries had been dumped in China and caused substantial damage to its domestic industry. A final ruling will be made at a later date after further investigations.
World Customs Organization Secretary General Kunio Mikuriya met World Trade Organization Director General Pascal Lamy in Geneva on January 20, 2011 to discuss further cooperation between the two Organizations. During their meeting they touched on a wide range of areas as Customs provides infrastructure for trade by connecting economies at borders. The discussions included implementation of the results of the trade facilitation (TF) negotiations under the Doha Development Agenda, rules of origin, the aid for trade initiative and trade-related research.
Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has announced a February 15, 2011 symposium in Japanese on the country's efforts to expand the market of products suitable for safe use and enjoyment by children, also called "Kids Design" products, by building a framework for industries to effectively and continuously promote development and production of goods incorporating kids design.
