The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) Secretariat has issued a document of selected highlights from 2010, for the United Nations International Year of Biodiversity, stating that it delivered on core functions affecting species protection, biodiversity, etc.
The World Economic Forum will hold its annual meeting on January 26-30, 2011 in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland. The title of this year's meeting, which is led by private sector co-chairs, is "Shared Norms for the New Reality." Executive summary of the meeting is available here.
The Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association has posted a quote from Senator John McCain's January 10, 2011 meeting with new Brazilian President Dilma Roussef in which he expressed doubts about the legality of U.S. ethanol subsidies. He is quoted as saying, "I believe the WTO would rule against the United States because it's clearly a subsidy that is neither warranted nor in keeping with WTO regulations." The Government of Canada has issued regulations restricting six phthalates in vinyl parts of toys and certain childcare articles. The new regulations will take effect six months after they are registered, or on approximately June 10, 2011.
