On December 20, 2010, the European Chemicals Agency submitted to the European Commission a recommendation that eight chemical Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC1) be subject to “authorization” under the European Union’s REACH2 program.
On December 21, 2010, the International Chamber of Commerce reported that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) expects to start accepting and issuing ATA Carnets early next year, making the federation the 69th country to join the ATA system.
On December 20, 2010, the United Nations General Assembly adopted draft resolutions setting forth strategies to protect coral reefs and to mitigate the ill effects of chemical munitions dumped at sea. The Assembly also took action on 17 draft resolutions on sustainable development, including calling on Member States to break the impasse in the Doha Round of World Trade Organization negotiations by eliminating agricultural subsidies, enhancing market access to developed-world markets, etc.
At the December 20, 2010 fourth India-Russia Forum on Trade & Investment, officials from India and Russia discussed trade and cooperation in chemicals and fertilizers, industry, energy, etc. Among other things, both countries agreed on the need to facilitate the trade of goods, especially agriculture and animal products, and also called for necessary measures to be taken to enable export of meat products from India to Russia.

The World Trade Organization has posted proposed revisions to the WTO Agreement on Government Procurement, which was last updated in 2006. The Committee on Government Procurement notes that Article XXII of the revised Agreement (Final Provisions) still remains subject to discussion and that adoption of the final text is subject to a mutually satisfactory outcome to the related negotiations on the coverage of the Agreement.
