The Government of Canada issued the following releases on October 25, 2010:

On October 25, 2010, the European Commission published a new report which shows that more than 330 trade restrictive measures have been taken by the European Union’s major trade partners since the outbreak of the financial and economic crisis in 2008. It adds that despite the economic recovery and contrary to the G20 commitment, a mere 10% of those measures have been removed in the meantime.

The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea states that Korean officials believe next month’s G-20 Summit in Seoul will be successful thanks to an agreement made by the G-20 member nations the weekend of October 24, 2010 to call a truce on competitive currency devaluations. The Korean government had been worried that the currency issue, if it continued to escalate, would derail the summit and remove hope for the adoption of initiatives such as establishing a global financial safety net linked to the revision of loan policies at the International Monetary Fund.

In a report to the World Trade Organization, the International Plant Protection Convention discussed new standards it is developing to minimize pest movement by sea containers and conveyances in international trade, and a similar standard, which is at an earlier stage of development, to minimize such risks for air containers and aircraft.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations announced that the 17th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits will be held in Ha Noi, Vietnam from October 28-30, 2010. One of the main agenda items is the planned participation of the U.S. and Russia in the ASEAN-initiated East Asia Summit (EAS). Leaders will also review the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ earlier recommendations in July to formally welcome the two countries to join the ten ASEAN Member States, Australia, China, India, Japan, Korea, and New Zealand in the grouping.

Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry announces the eighth Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministerial Meeting on the telecommunications and information industry in the City of Nago, Okinawa on October 30-31, 2010. At the meeting, Ministers from APEC member economies will hold discussions on policies related to the telecommunications and information industry in the APEC region.

The World Customs Organization is organizing the Second Technology and Innovations Forum in Cairo, Egypt on November 2-4, 2010. WCO states that in addition to demonstrating a wide range of new and emerging technologies, the forum will focus on engaging all relevant stakeholders in the discussion on the efficient use of technology at the border.

The Chairman of the World Trade Organization panel examining "China - Measures Related to the Exportation of Various Raw Materials' brought by the U.S. (D/S394), European Union (DS/395), and Mexico (DS398) has informed WTO members that the panel cannot issue its report on time. The panel now expects to finalize its report by April 2011. (May have to open source document twice for proper viewing.)
