The Consumer Product Safety Commission is scheduled to vote by August 11, 2010 on a draft Federal Register notice establishing accreditation requirements for third-party labs to be able to test children's (or youth) all-terrain vehicles for compliance with 16 CFR Part 1420. Publication of these lab requirements would effectively lift the testing and certification stay that has been in effect for these products since February 2009.
Commissioners Nord and Northup of the Consumer Product Safety Commission have both posted blogs urging the trade to respond to CPSC's recent request for information and comments on the technological feasibility of meeting the 100 ppm lead content limit. This third and final lowering of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act lead content limit will take effect August 14, 2011, unless CPSC determines, for a particular product or class of products, that the limit is not technologically feasible.

The Food and Drug Administration is announcing the availability of a draft guidance for FDA staff entitled "Compliance Policy Guide Sec. 690.800 Salmonella in Animal Feed," which, when finalized, is intended to provide guidance on regulatory policy relating to animal feed or feed ingredients that come in direct contact with humans, such as pet food and pet treats, contaminated with Salmonella and also on regulatory policy relating to animal feed or feed ingredients contaminated with a Salmonella serotype that is pathogenic to the target animal for the animal feed.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a draft Strategic Plan for 2011-2016 which recognizes and accounts for CPSC’s new legislative mandates, the growing global supply chain, technological advances in consumer products, and the agency’s commitment to proactively reduce consumer product hazards.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission is scheduled to vote by August 2, 2010 on a staff memorandum recommending that CPSC accredit the following three labs as firewalled third-party labs: Foshan Nanhai MatteI Diecast Co., Ltd. PI (Product Integrity) Laboratory, China; Foshan Nanhai MatteI Consultancy Service Co., Ltd., China; and Hanesbrands Inc. (HBI) Corporate Testing Laboratory, United States.
