The Consumer Product Safety Commission has published a provisionally-accepted Settlement Agreement with Jake’s Fireworks, Inc., Far East Imports, Inc., Wholesale Fireworks Enterprises LLC, and Pacific Northwest Fireworks, Inc., containing a civil penalty of $100,000.00, for importing fireworks that failed to comply with CPSC’s fireworks regulations.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission is scheduled to vote by December 1, 2010 on a draft Federal Register document that would extend for 60 days the date by which youth all-terrain vehicles must be tested and certified for compliance with 16 CFR Part 1420.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced that the third meeting of the Chronic Hazard Advisory Panel (CHAP) on phthalates and phthalate substitutes will be held on December 2-3, 2010. The panel, which was required by the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA), was appointed to study the effects on children’s health of all phthalates and phthalate alternatives as used in children’s toys and child care articles.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a notice amending the terms under which it will accept certifications for children’s mattresses, mattress pads, and/or mattress sets based on testing by a third-party lab to the flammability regulations at 16 CFR parts 1632 and/or 1633 that occurred prior to CPSC’s acceptance of that lab’s accreditation.
