Export.gov has announced a series of domestic and international trade shows that are scheduled for 2011-2012.
On May 3, 2011, an official at the Defense Trade Advisory Group's plenary session gave a presentation and introduced a draft definition of the term "specially designed" to initially be used in Category VII of the U.S. Munitions List, and eventually to other categories and lists.
The Department of Defense is publishing the unclassified text of a section 36(b)(1) arms sales notification regarding the Air Force's proposed letter of offer and acceptance for sale to Greece of spare parts and service for certain military aircraft engines, estimated to cost $100 million.
The Department of Defense is publishing the unclassified text of a section 36(b)(1) arms sales notification regarding the Navy Department's proposed letter of offer and acceptance for sale to the United Kingdom of a certain weapon system and supporting defense articles and services, including spare and repair parts, support equipment, and software support, estimated to cost $137 million.
The Census Bureau has issued an AES broadcast announcing that AESDirect is currently experiencing slow processing in returning AES response messages back to the filers. Census is asking filers to view their individual AES responses for shipments submitted via the AESDirect program in the Shipment Manger function of AESDirect. The full CBP Status for each shipment, including the Internal Transaction Number (ITN), can be viewed in the Shipment Manager.
The Bureau of Industry and Security has issued a correction to certain text in its April 20, 2011 final rule which implemented the understandings reached at the June 2010 plenary meeting of the Australia Group, among other things. BIS is correcting the text regarding ECCN 2B350.g (valves) to remove a semicolon that was not in the previous regulations. The Census Bureau has posted to its Web site the April 2011 issue of its Automated Export System Newsletter. The April newsletter includes articles on the AESDirect Shipment Manager, Census' AES proposed rule, the AES "Related Parties" indicator, consolidated export compliance screening lists, etc. See future issue of ITT for details on the newsletter.
Effective April 29, 2011 the Bureau of Industry and Security has revoked certain licenses for the export and reexport to Syria of items relating to VIP aircraft used to transport senior officials of the Syrian government. Due to the commission of human rights abuses related to political repression in Syria, export and reexport of these items is deemed contrary to the foreign policy interests of the U.S. BIS took this action under the authority of 15 CFR 750.8 of the Export Administration Regulations, and all persons holding relevant licenses have been notified.
The Bureau of Industry and Security announces a seminar on May 4-5, 2011 in Newport Beach, CA, "Complying with U.S. Export Controls," which will provide an in-depth examination of the Export Administration Regulations and cover the information exporters need to know to comply with U.S. export control requirements on commercial goods. BIS states that this one-of-a kind program is well suited for those who need a comprehensive understanding of their obligations under the EAR. The registration fee is $325 per person; advance registration is required and seminar space is limited.
