Jason Kearns, a trade lawyer for the House Ways and Means Committee, is replacing Viji Rangaswami as Minority Chief Trade Counsel on the committee, said a spokesman for Ways and Means Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-Mich.) Kearns has worked on the committee since 2006, before which he worked in the Office of the General Counsel to the U.S. Trade Representative. The spokesman said Rangaswami hasn't said where she is going next.
The Virginia Port Authority board named Rodney Oliver interim executive director of the agency, taking over for Jerry Bridges who is scheduled to leave Oct. 31. Oliver is the deputy executive director-administration and chief financial officer for the VPA.
The Emergency Committee for American Trade (ECAT) hired Stephen Schaefer as vice president, ECAT said. Schaefer has worked as an international trade lawyer in the Senate Finance Committee and the U.S. International Trade Commission.

Chairman Kevin Brady (R-Texas) wished her well in an opening statement of a Sept. 20 hearing on international service agreements. Rangaswami is "leaving the Committee after over a decade of service" and has provided important contributions in "her work on free trade agreements, our preference programs, our trade remedy laws, Trade Adjustment Assistance, and China policy," he said. The Democratic office of the House Ways and Means committee declined to comment further.
