The Agricultural Marketing Service announced the appointment of two members and two alternates to the Cotton Board. The terms of the member positions, one California producer and one importer, expire on December 31, 2014, and the terms of the alternate member positions, both importer positions, expire on December 31, 2013. The appointed producer member from California is Aaron Barcellos, Los Banos, California. Roger Glaspey from Fresno, California, is the appointed importer member. The appointed alternate importer members are Sapna Sapru, Forest Hills, New York; and Kris Arabia, Orlando, Florida.
The Agricultural Marketing Service announced five appointments to the 15-member National Pork Board. Newly appointed members representing pork producers include: Craig Mensink, Preston, Minnesota and Carl Link, Fort Recovery, Ohio. Members reappointed to the board include: Brad Greenway, Mitchell, South Dakota; Dale Norton, Bronson, Michigan; and Lisa Colby, Newburyport, Massachusetts.. The five appointees will each serve 3-year terms.
The Federal Trade Commission named Howard Shelanski, ex-Georgetown University Law Center, director of the FTC Bureau of Economics, effective July 1, replacing Joseph Farrell, who is returning to academia.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection chose Patrick Wilson as Area Port Director for the Sault Sainte Marie, Mich., port of entry, said CBP. Wilson previously was Assistant Port Director for passenger operations for CBP in Sault Sainte Marie and oversaw immigration policy, enforcement and CBP’s trusted traveler programs. Current Port Director Devin Chamberlain will take over as Area Port Director at the Detroit Metro Airport in Romulus, assuming responsibility for CBP passenger and air cargo operations for Detroit Metro,
Heidi Crebo-Rediker, ex-Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, became the Department of State’s first chief economist. The chief economist will advise on emerging economic issues.
Kevin McAleenan, U.S. Customs and Border Protection assistant commissioner in Office of Field Operations, and Mike Watson, executive director for Plant Health Programs at the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), were added to the Agriculture Quarantine Inspection Partnership Council. McAleenan and Watson replace CBP Assistant Commissioner Thomas Winkowski and Alan Green of APHIS.
