The Food and Drug Administration issued its weekly Enforcement Report for May 30 that lists the status of recalls and field corrections for food, cosmetics, tobacco products, drugs, biologics and devices. The report covers both domestic and foreign firms.
The Food and Drug Administration on May 30 announced the approval of a new accreditation body for approving third-party certifiers required by provisions of the Food Safety Modernization Act. The National Bureau of Agricultural Commodity and Food Standards (ACFS), based in Thailand, has been approved by FDA for a period of five years to accredit certification bodies with the ability to perform audits of compliance with preventive controls regulations on human and animal food, FDA said. ACFS becomes the third accreditation body approved by FDA, joining the American National Standards Institute and the ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board (ANAB). Use of third-party certifiers accredited by these bodies is required for participation in the Voluntary Qualified Importer Program, and “in certain circumstances FDA can require that imported products be certified” before entering the U.S., the agency said. FDA’s VQIP trusted trader program is on hold because no third-party certifiers have yet been accredited by FDA-approved accreditation bodies (see 1805300043).
