For more than seven years, the Chilean government has asked the U.S. to adjust the rules of origin in their trade agreement for woven fabrics of artificial filament yarn in subheadings 5408.22-5408.23 of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule to allow the use of filament yarn of viscose rayon classified in subheadings 5403.10, 5403.31, 5403.32, and 5403.41 from countries other than the U.S. or Chile.
The Commerce Department on Feb. 23 released its quarterly update to its annual list of foreign government subsidies on imported articles of cheese subject to an in-quota rate of duty July 1 through Sept. 30, 2022. The agency again found that only Canada is providing subsidies, in the form of export assistance.
Undersecretary of Commerce for International Trade Marisa Lago, who leads 2,300 employees at the agency, said an increasing part of their work is helping U.S. companies build resilience in the face of China's "heavily subsidized indigenous industries."
