The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the following voluntary recalls Sept. 15:

The Consumer Product Safety Commission is proposing to amend its flammability standard for clothing textiles to update testing requirements, it said in a notice. The proposed rule would “clarify existing provisions, expand permissible equipment and materials, and update equipment requirements that are outdated,” the CPSC said. Comments are due by Nov. 14.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission released a direct final rule Sept. 2 amending its safety standard for infant bouncer seats to incorporate the latest revisions to the ASTM voluntary industry standard, it said. The changes are effective Dec. 19, unless CPSC receives a “significant adverse” comment by Oct. 6.

Segway Powersports will pay a $1.25 million penalty to resolve charges that it knowingly imported All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) without a CPSC-approved ATV action plan in place at the time of importation, the CPSC said in a recent news release. The commission assessed a total penalty of $5 million for Segway’s importation of 152 ATVs, suspending $3.75 million of the penalty in light of potential financial hardship for the company.

The changes are effective Dec. 3, unless CPSC receives a “significant adverse” comment by Oct. 3.
