On July 7, 2010, the President signed into law S. 16601, the “Formaldehyde Standards for Composite Wood Products Act,” which establishes national air emission standards for formaldehyde in domestic and imported composite wood products.
On July 1, 2010, the House amended and passed the FY 2010 Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Act (H.R. 4899), to provide additional funds for war activities in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Gulf Coast oil spill, flood recovery, and Haiti, among other things. The Senate passed its version of H.R. 4899 on May 27, 2010, which included provisions on Southern border security, and Iran. On July 2, 2010, the Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security issued a statement regarding the President’s Executive Order on the security of biological select agents and toxins in the U.S. The Chairman states that as with the WMD Prevention and Preparedness Act of 2010, which is moving through the House, the EO requires the Federal government to develop security enhancements to help prevent biological agents and toxins, like smallpox and anthrax, from getting in the hands of terrorists.

On June 29, 2010, the House Appropriations Committee’s Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Subcommittee held a mark-up of the fiscal year 2011 appropriations bill for the Department of Commerce, the International Trade Commission, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, and a number of related agencies. During the mark up, the Subcommittee approved the bill for full Committee action.
