The International Trade Commission began a Section 337 investigation on allegations that 19 U.S. companies are importing and selling pre-stretched synthetic braiding hair that infringe patents held by JBS Hair Inc. (ITC Inv. No. 337-TA-1457), it said in a notice to be published Aug. 7. JBS filed the complaint in July and is seeking a general exclusion order and cease and desist orders against the respondents to bar from entry "certain pre-stretched synthetic braiding hair and packaging thereof" that violate the complainants' patents (see 2507080027).

The Commerce Department has published the preliminary results of an antidumping duty administrative review on common alloy aluminum sheet from Bahrain (A-525-001). The final results of this review will be used to set importer assessments for one company for the period April 1, 2023, through March 31, 2024.
The FDA has issued new tools for food traceability and a frequently asked questions document on the subject, according to an Aug. 6 constituent update. The new tools come as the agency also is proposing to extend the compliance date for a rule addressing traceability records for certain foods by 30 months, as announced by the agency in March (see 2503200060), it said in a notice released Aug. 6.
CBP improperly classified importer Air Distribution USA's shisha molasses, also known as "hookah tobacco," as a type of "smoking tobacco" and erroneously subjected the shisha molasses to federal excise taxes on "pipe tobacco," Air Distribution argued in a complaint last month at the Court of International Trade (Air Distribution USA v. United States, CIT # 25-00063).

CBP created Harmonized System Updates 2530 and 2531 on Aug. 5. HSU 2530 contains 404 Automated Broker Interface records and 135 Harmonized Tariff Schedule records. HSU 2531 contains four ABI records and two HTS records. HSU 2530 includes the additional duties on imports from Brazil effective Aug. 6, the reciprocal tariff updates effective Aug. 7, and miscellaneous tariff adjustments required by verification of the 2025 HTS. HSU 2531 includes an update to the countries of origin for the EU reciprocal tariffs.
President Donald Trump said in the Oval Office Aug. 6 that the U.S. will be imposing a tariff of "approximately 100%" on chips and semiconductors, "but if you're building in the United States of America, there is no charge."
