The Commerce Department made preliminary affirmative antidumping duty determinations that imports of paper plates from China (A-570-164), Thailand (A-549-849) and Vietnam (A-552-839), are being sold in the U.S. at less than fair value. The agency will generally impose AD cash deposit requirements on entries of subject merchandise beginning on Sept. 5, 2024, though cash deposit requirements take effect retroactively for some Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese companies, beginning on June 7, 2024.

A bipartisan group of 10 House members, led by Ways and Means Trade Subcommittee Chairman Rep. Adrian Smith, R-Neb., is asking U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai to engage with Mexico's leaders on that country's constitutional reforms.
The top Democrat on the House Natural Resources Committee, joined by a Republican and two other Democrats, is asking CBP to provide decision memoranda, emails, situation summaries, discussion and evaluation documents and briefing documents on how the agency is identifying seafood imports that were harvested by illegal fishing or processed with forced labor, including how ACE is collecting data.
Ontario resident Wasseem Ramjaun pleaded guilty Sept. 4 to importing counterfeit goods, causing a "total loss" of $4,216,025, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of New York announced. He faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $2 million fine.
