The Nanosys xQDEF diffuser plate with air-stable quantum dots (see 2204280035) was one of several offerings winning display component of the year honors from the Society for Information Display, said the society Tuesday. As a “direct replacement” for diffuser plate components in direct-lit LCDs, the xQDEF diffuser plate “simplifies the display assembly process, allowing display makers to design and build the most cost-effective displays with the widest color gamut,” said SID. Display of the year honors went to Apple’s Liquid Retina XDR display in the iPad Pro and MacBook Pro for its ability to render “extreme dynamic range” with 1,600 nits of peak luminance. Winners will receive their awards during the May 8-13 Display Week conference in San Jose.
Changing FCC rules for land mobile sharing of the T band would worsen existing interference problems between TV stations and T-band operators, so the agency should make clear that broadcasters won't bear sole responsibility for mitigating the inevitable interference, NAB representatives told Media, Wireless and Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau staffers in a filing Monday (RM-11915). The Land Mobile Communications Council petitioned the FCC to modify its Part 90 rules on sharing of TV channels 14-20 with the band (see 2202100041).
The National Marine Fisheries Service updated its certification of admissibility that is required for imports of fish from Mexico, CBP said in a CSMS message. The revised form expires May 31. "Mexican authorities have been notified that this form should be used for fish landed in Mexican ports beginning May 1, 2022," CBP said. "Entries from Mexico under the designated HTS codes that are not accompanied by the COA are inadmissible." The certification requirements are meant to help protect the endangered vaquita, a species of porpoise endemic to the northern Gulf of California (see 2003050043).
The EU General Court annulled the European Council acts keeping Ferdinand Ilunga Luyoyo on the EU's Democratic Republic of the Congo sanctions list. The court found that Ilunga Luyoyo, the former commander of the National Intervention Legion in the Congolese national police, no longer held the positions that landed him on the list and that the council failed to give sufficient evidence linking him and the security situation in the DRC, according to an unofficial translation.

The National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) and the Home Technology Association (HTA), are joining to give NKBA members access to HTA’s library of educational articles, webinars and videos that have been available to architects, designers and specifiers. Under the partnership, HTA members can join the NKBA and participate in regional chapter programs, national events and initiatives, the associations said Wednesday. HTA helps home design and building professionals find qualified home technology installation firms for residential construction projects. The NKBA developed a landing page on NKBA.org devoted to connecting NKBA and HTA professionals. NKBA and HTA members will be able to search the page to find potential partners as well as participate in learning programs and webinars. HTA created a new Project Technology Assessment form that lists technologies that could be included in a new or remodeled home, said the groups. “Whole home integrated technology is now a household norm,” said NKBA CEO Bill Darcy. “The NKBA has embraced the importance of smart home devices to create a custom-tailored environment that matches today’s lifestyle needs,” he said.
LG is the first TV maker to implement Verance’s Aspect watermark detection on its NextGenTVs, enabling reception of ATSC 3.0's two-way interactive capabilities via cable, satellite or antenna, Verance announced Tuesday at the NAB Show. As NextGenTVs expand to more homes, interactive experiences will be “on the horizon,” said Verance, including the opportunity to tune the set’s audio to hear only hometown sports announcers. “The watermark detection process allows the information required for two-way next-generation services in a connected smart TV set to pass through any distribution environment seamlessly, including over HDMI links and through existing distribution equipment and set-top boxes,” said Verance.
