With President Joe Biden's declaration of Jan. 9 as a national day of mourning to commemorate the death of former President Jimmy Carter, CBP also will declare the date a holiday, according to a cargo systems message. "Any entries previously transmitted with a payment due date of 01/09/2025 will appear on a statement on 01/10/2025. That means two separate statements may be generated on 01/10/2025," CBP said. "Filers who wish to change the payment print date from January 9 to January 10 for previously transmitted summaries may do so at their discretion."

The International Trade Commission posted the 2025 Basic Edition of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule. The new HTS implements a variety of 10-digit-level changes for fruits and vegetables, chemicals and other products. Changes were effective as of Jan. 1 unless otherwise noted.

The Border Trade Alliance released a Dec. 30 letter it sent to the Mexican Embassy asking that nation to pause its regulatory changes that end tariff-free treatment of apparel and textile home goods that are imported into Mexico but destined for U.S. consumers. The same change also increased the tariffs on 121 apparel goods from China to 35% (see 2412240009).

The Commerce Department has published the final results of the antidumping duty administrative review on silicomanganese from India (A-533-823). Commerce set an AD rate of 1.71% for the only company under review, Maithan Alloys Limited. Commerce will assess AD on subject entries from Maithan Alloys during the period May 1, 2022, through April 30, 2023, at importer-specific rates. A new 1.71% AD cash deposit rate takes effect for Maithan on Dec. 30.
