The National Marine Fisheries Service has updated the Harmonized Tariff Schedule codes subject to Certification of Admissibility requirements from Mexico to align the codes with the International Trade Commission's 2024 revision to the tariff schedule, according to an Oct. 23 cargo systems message.

While a top CBP official didn't give any specifics on how many brokerages were suspended from a pilot that allows electronic clearance of de minimis packages (see 2405310054), he told attendees at an annual National Customs Brokers & Forwarders Association of America conference not to "be afraid of that enforcement," as the brokers who were suspended were so lax that there wasn't even anything that the companies could argue about with CBP.
CBP implemented on Sept. 4 a nationwide rejection of vague descriptions in Air Cargo Advance Screening (ACAS). The agency won't issue rejections during a 30-day warning period that runs through Oct. 6. Rejections will be effective Oct. 7, CBP said in a Sept. 5 cargo systems message.
Federal Maritime Commissioner Carl Bentzel hopes to issue a final report later this year that will expand on ways carriers, ports, railroads and others can better share supply chain data and real-time shipping information, he said this week. Bentzel said he believes the government eventually should turn some of the report’s recommendations into new mandates, including one that would require carriers to provide shippers with live, in-transit updates on their cargo.
CBP created Harmonized System Update 2412 on Aug. 13, containing 1,000 Harmonized Tariff Schedule records and 4,158 Automated Broker Interface (ABI) records. The update includes several updates to PGA HTS flag indicator for AMS (AM7) and adjustments required by the verification of the 2024 HTS. CBP created Harmonized System Update 2411 on July 18, containing 131 Automated Broker Interface (ABI) records and 27 Harmonized Tariff Schedule records. "In support of the PGA Message Set, Participating Government Agency (PGA), PGA flag indicators for [Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service] (AQ1 to AQ2) were updated," CBP added.
CBP created Harmonized System Update 2410 on July 11, containing 52 Automated Broker Interface (ABI) records and 15 Harmonized Tariff Schedule records. The update includes the "latest Section 232 Mexico Aluminum and Steel updates and adjustments required by the verification of the 2024 Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS)."
