Even though thousands of CBP employees will be required to work without pay to clear cargo in the case of a government shutdown on Sunday, importers are preparing for problems, since they have experienced them in previous shutdowns.
CBP created Harmonized System Update (HSU) 2308 on June 30, containing 855 ABI records and 178 Harmonized Tariff Schedule records. This update includes modifications to 10-digit statistical reporting numbers mandated by the 484(f) Committee that take effect July 1, CBP said in a June 30 CSMS message.
CBP created Harmonized System Update 2306 on June 6, containing 4,835 Automated Broker Interface records and 1,746 Harmonized Tariff Records. This update includes an extension, which went into effect June 1, to the suspension of Section 232 duties on steel imports and steel article imports from Ukraine as well as the adjustments required by the verification of the 2023 Harmonized Tariff Schedule, CBP said, in a June 7 CSMS message.
CBP created Harmonized System Update (HSU) 2305 on March 27, containing 24 ABI records and 5 Harmonized Tariff Schedule records. This update includes increased duties on certain articles from the Russian Federation and changes to HTS flagging, CBP said in a March 28 CSMS message.
CBP created Harmonized System Update (HSU) 2304 on March 9, containing 77 ABI records and 18 Harmonized Tariff Schedule records. These changes include additional Section 232 duties on imports of aluminum and derivative aluminum products from Russia and changes to HTS flagging. "With the upcoming ACE HTS deployment in May 2023, we recommend testing in ACE Certification," CBP said in a March 10 CSMS message.
