APHIS Updates PPQ Manuals for April 16
The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service issued emails April 16, 2012, announcing changes to some Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) electronic manuals. While some changes are minor, other changes may affect the admissibility of the plant products, including fruits, vegetables, and flowers.

Agricultural Quarantine Inspection Monitoring (AQIM) Handbook: The AQIM Handbook (here) has been revised. Several chapters have been revised to reflect FY12 monitoring activities in various pathways. The revisions are summarized in the FY12 Program Summary (here) and are explained in more detail in the corresponding Handbook chapters. As a reminder, all of the worksheets are available in both the Handbook, and as stand alone documents on the APHIS web site here.
FAVIR & Fruits and Vegetables Manual. The FAVIR database (here) and the Fruits and Vegetables Manual (here) have been revised. The reasons for the revisions were:
- China: Fragrant pear - added a link to a list of APHIS-approved packing houses
- Mexico: papaya - added a new papaya orchard, Rancho San Juan, to the list of approved orchards in Chiapas
- List of Approved Names: corrected the scientific names for lucuma, sapodilla, and sapote
