APHIS Updates PPQ Manuals for May 24-25

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service issued emails May 24 and 25, 2012, announcing changes to some Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) electronic manuals. While some changes are minor, other changes may affect the admissibility of the plant products, including fruits, vegetables, and flowers.

Miscellaneous and Processed Products Import Manual: The following change has been made to the Miscellaneous and Processed Products Import Manual (here) to reflect an up-to-date correction. The specific change is listed after the table number below.

  • Table 3-108 Mango--sliced or similarly prepared fresh mango change language regarding requirements in third column (And the fruit is:), second cell has been changed
  • Links contained throughout the manual in the Table of Contents, List of Figures, List of Tables, Index, as well as internal and external cross-references have all been updated.

FAVIR and the Fruits and Vegetables Manual: FAVIR (here) and the Fruits and Vegetables Manual (here) have been revised. There were several reasons for the revision:

  • Papaya from Chiapas, Mexico, authorized orchards: removed the orchard "3 Tesoros" and added the orchard "Zintahuayate"
  • Jicama from Mexico: revised the approved plant parts by adding "leaf"
  • Tomatillo from Mexico: revised the approved plant part "above ground parts"
  • Tomatillo from Belize: revised the approved plant part "above ground parts"

In FAVIR, open the Commodity Import Report (CIR) to view the import requirements. The manual page numbers that have changed are 3-36, 3-201, and 3-203 (changes are indicated by black bars in the left margin.)

Approved Phalaenopsis in Growing Media Facilities: The Approved Phalaenopsis (orchids) in Growing Media Facilities list (here) has been updated, transmittal 05/2012-13, to add 5 newly-approved growers and 8 newly-approved greenhouses. Revisions are indicated by a black change bar in the left margin of each revised page.
