APHIS Asks for Comments on 12 Petitions for Nonregulated Status of GE Products, Etc.

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service issued several notices set to be published in the July 13 Federal Register,on 2 recently announced determinations of nonregulated status for certain genetically engineered products, as well as 9 petitions for nonregulated status and 3 petitions for nonregulated status and attached APHIS risk assessments.

APHIS Determines Nonregulated Status for Monsanto Soybeans, Bayer Cotton

APHIS said it made a final determination of nonregulated status for Monsanto soybeans genetically engineered to produce stearidonic acid, and a preliminary determination of nonregulated status for Bayer cotton engineered for herbicide and insect resistance. APHIS is asking for comments on its preliminary determination for Bayer cotton by Aug. 13.

Comments due by Sept. 11 on Three Petitions w/ Risk Assessments

Additionally, APHIS is asking for comments by Sept. 11 on petitions and draft APHIS risk assessments for nonregulated status of the following products: (1) Syngenta corn genetically engineered for insect resistance (here); (2) Dow soybeans genetically engineered for herbicide tolerance (here); and (3) Bayer soybeans genetically engineered for herbicide tolerance (here).
