APHIS Updates PPQ Manuals for Sept. 14
The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service issued emails Sept. 14 announcing changes to Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) electronic manuals. While some changes are minor, other changes may affect the admissibility of the plant products, including fruits, vegetables, and flowers.

Plants for Planting Manual: The interim edition of the Plants for Planting Manual (here) has been updated, transmittal 09/2012-10, to change the Federal Order effective date to September 13, 2012 for host materials of tomato leafminer, Tuta absoluta; and to add a summary of Federal Order DA-2012-21. Seeds are not included in the prohibition.
In the Plants for Planting Manual, this Federal Order effective September 13, 2012 is listed for Datura spp. only. Although this Federal Order also prohibits the entry of plants for planting of Nicotiana spp. and Solanum spp, no changes were made to these in this manual, because Nicotiana spp. and Solanum spp. are already prohibited entry from all countries except Canada by the more restrictive Federal Order effective June 1, 2009 for Tomato Torrado Virus (ToTV) and Tomato Severe Leaf Curl Virus (ToSLCV).
