APHIS Updates PPQ Manuals for Nov. 16

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service announced changes Nov. 16 to Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) electronic manuals. While some changes are minor, other changes may affect the admissibility of the plant products, including fruits, vegetables, and flowers.

Plants for Planting Manual: The Plants for Planting Manual (here) has been updated, transmittal 11/2012-14. Revisions, indicated by a black change bar in the left margin of each revised page, are as follows:

  • Page 2-18: Added requirement for host plants of Phytophthora ramorum to enter from USDA-APHIS approved places of production (facilities) and a link to the new list of approved facilities
  • Page 2-19: Added cross-reference and deleted duplicate entry

The table of contents, list of figures, list of tables, and the index were updated. Other formatting changes were made throughout the manual.

Approved Phytophthora ramorum Facilities List: The new list of USDA-APHIS Approved Facilities for Hosts of Phytophthora ramorum (here) is now available, transmittal 11/2012-01. The importation of host plants for planting (except seeds), as listed in the Plants for Planting Manual, from a country where Phytophthora ramorum is present may enter the United States only if sent from an approved facility (place of production) on the Approved Facilities for Hosts of Phytophthora ramorum list.
