APHIS Updates PPQ Manuals for Nov. 20

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service announced changes Nov. 20 to Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) electronic manuals. While some changes are minor, other changes may affect the admissibility of the plant products, including fruits, vegetables, and flowers.

Treatment Manual: The Treatment Manual (here) has been updated. The updates are marked by black change bars in the left margin and are as follows:

  • Page 3-3-6: Heat, Hot Water Immersion Treatment: clarify the requirements for the fruit sizing equipment used for hot water treated mangoes
  • Appendix H: Reference Guide to Commercial Suppliers: page H-12 added an air velocity monitor to the approved list (Extech Instruments Corp.)

Seeds Not for Planting Manual: The Seeds Not for Planting Manual (here) has been updated, transmittal 11/2012-53, to revise the coconut tables. Revisions, indicated by a black change bar in the left margin of each revised page, are as follows:

  • Page 3-11, Table 3-6: Added Mexico and entry requirements
  • Page 3-12, Table 3-7: Changed title to Coconuts (Cocos nucifera) from other than Costa Rica, Jamaica, and Mexico; deleted sprouted seeds percentage; changed authority for coconuts that lack liquid
