APHIS Updates PPQ Manuals for Nov. 21

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service announced changes Nov. 21 to Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) electronic manuals. While some changes are minor, other changes may affect the admissibility of the plant products, including fruits, vegetables, and flowers.

Authorized Perlagonium Facilities. The list of APHIS Inspected Perlargonium Facilities Authorized to Export Pelargonium spp. Cuttings to the U.S. (here) has been updated, transmittal 11/2012-09. This update is to add a new facility and to change the certification ends date to 12/31/2012 for the facilities in Mexico.

Manual for Agricultural Clearance. The online Manual for Agricultural Clearance (here) has been revised to do the following:

  • Define cargo release authority
  • Update instructions for preparing plant pest interceptions
  • Update the lists of PPQ Area Identifiers and PPQ National Specialists

Changes are on the following pages:

  • Chapter 2: Examining and Monitoring Cargo: Section 2: Clearing Transiting In-Bond Cargo: Page 2-2-16.
  • Chapter 7: Preparing Plant Pest Interceptions: Pages 7-1-1, 7-1-2, and 7-1-11 through 7-1-15.
  • Appendix G: Lists of PPQ Area Identifiers and PPQ National Specialists: Pages G-1-4, G-1-13, G-1-15, G-1-19, and G-1-20.
