APHIS Updates PPQ Manuals for Nov. 27

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service announced changes Nov. 27 to Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) electronic manuals. While some changes are minor, other changes may affect the admissibility of the plant products, including fruits, vegetables, and flowers.

Clearing Seeds for Planting Job Aid: The Clearing Seeds for Planting, Job Aid for CBPAS (here), was updated, transmittal 11/2012-08, to revise the exemptions to the phytosanitary certification requirement for admissible seeds. Revisions, indicated by a black change bar, are as follows:

  • Page 1-2, Table 1-2: Added scientific name for corn (Zea mays); changed scientific name for teosinte and added synonym (Zea spp. =Euchlaena). Removed sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum) including Japanese varieties.
