APHIS Updates PPQ Manuals for Dec. 10

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service announced changes Dec. 10 to Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) electronic manuals. While some changes are minor, other changes may affect the admissibility of the plant products, including fruits, vegetables, and flowers.

Miscellaneous and Processed Products Manual: The following changes have been made to the Miscellaneous and Processed Products Manual (here) to reflect up-to-date information and corrections. The specific changes are listed after the table numbers below.

  • Table 3-102 Honey bee products - "pollen" and footnote indicator #5 have been added to the first column (If the product is:), first and second cells; a second authority has been added to the last column, first cell; "pollen" has been added to the second column (And the product is:), last cell; footnote #5 has been added (resulting in subsequent footnote numbering adjustment); language in footnote #6 has been changed
  • FORMER Table 3-133* Pollen - table has been deleted

*Subsequent table numbering has been adjusted to accommodate the deleted table.

Links contained throughout the manual in the Table of Contents, List of Figures, List of Tables, and Index as well as internal and external cross-references and hyperlinks have all been updated as necessary.

Animal Product Manual: The following changes have been made to the Animal Product Manual (here) to reflect up-to-date information and corrections. The specific changes are listed after the individual table or page number below.

Chapter 1-1 Introduction

  • Page 1-1-4 under "What the APM Covers That Is Also Covered in the Manual for Agricultural Clearance (MAC)" and "Users" headings - language has been deleted

Chapter 2-2 Clearing Regulated Cargo

  • Table 2-2-7 Inspection of Semen and Embryo Containers - language in the third column (Then:), first and second cells has been corrected
  • Page 2-2-12 under "Emptry Semen and Embryo Containers" heading - text and FORMER Table 2-2-8* (Determine Whether to Clean and Disinfect Empty Semen and Embryo Containers) have been deleted

Chapter 2-3 Clearing Regulated Passenger Baggage

  • Table 2-3-6 Determine Action Based on Results of Inspection - language in the first column (As a result of your inspection you find:), third cell has been corrected; MAC reference has been added in the third column (Then:) fourth cell, and language in the first column, last cell has been changed
  • FORMER Table 2-3-7* Action to Take on Plant Debris, Hay, Straw, Soil, or Manure Contaminants - table has been deleted

Chapter 2-4 Special Procedures

  • Page 2-4-8 - MAC reference has been added to top paragraph
  • FORMER Table 2-4-3* Select the Appropriate Disinfectant - table and surrounding language have been deleted
  • FORMER Table 2-4-4* Formulas and Instructions for Mixing Disinfectants - table and surrounding language have been deleted
  • FORMER Table 2-4-5* Formulas and Instructions for Mixing Sodium Hypochlorite - table and surrounding language have been deleted
  • FORMER Table 2-4-6* Sources of Supply for Disinfectants and Cleaning Materials - table and surrounding language have been deleted

Chapter 3-15 Miscellaneous Products

  • Page 3-15-7 under "Footwear" heading - reference to MAC has been added

*ALL subsequent tables will be renumbered to reflect these deletions. The List of Tables in the front matter of the manual will also reflect the deleted table numbers.
