APHIS Updates PPQ Manuals for Dec. 20

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service announced changes Dec. 20 to Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) electronic manuals. While some changes are minor, other changes may affect the admissibility of the plant products, including fruits, vegetables, and flowers.

Miscellaneous and Processed Products: The following changes have been made to he Miscellaneous Processed Products Manual (here) to reflect up-to-date information and corrections.

  • Table 3-90 Grasses (all genera and species of Poaceae) stems, leaves, inflorescences, and arrangements -- vocabulary throughout the table was changed; footnote #2 was added
  • Table 3-187 Locator - language on the second page, first column (If the product is:), first cell was changed
  • Table 3-203 Bark and other wood material to be used for compost (humus, litter, and wood mulch) - language in the table title was changed; language in footnote #4 was corrected

Links contained throughout the manual in the Table of Contents, List of Figures, List of Tables, Index, and internal and external cross-references and hyperlinks have all been updated as necessary.

Seeds Not for Planting: The Seeds Not for Planting Manual (here) was updated, transmittal 12/2012-55, to add the new certification end date for a USDA approved Guizotia abyssinica (niger) seed treatment facility. The revision is on page 3-43.

Approved Pelargonium Facilities: The list of Approved Pelargonium Facilities authorized to export Pelargonium spp. cuttings to the U.S. (here) was updated to add new certification end dates for some facilities. Revisions are indicated by a black change bar in the left margin of each revised page.

Animal Product Manual: The following changes were made to the Animal Product Manual (here) to reflect up-to-date information and corrections. The specific changes are listed after the individual figure, page, or table number below.

List of Figures

  • Page LOF-1-3 - Figure 3-13-2* and Figure 3-13-6 have been added
  • Page LOF-1-7 - Figure G-1-71 and Figure G-1-72 have been added

Chapter 3-13 Foreign Origin Meat and Meat Products, Swine

  • Table 3-13-13 Cooked Swine Meat from Mexico - "Cooked swine meat, bone-in" (located in first column (If the importation is:), second cell) information has been added; footnote #3 has been added to the table
  • NEW Figure 3-13-2* List of APHIS-Approved Mexican Swine Processing Plants, Cooked Swine Meat - figure has been added
  • Table 3-13-33 Fresh (Chilled or Frozen) Swine Meat from Mexico - "Fresh (chilled or frozen) swine meat, bone-in" (located in first column (If the importation is:), second cell) information has been added; footnote #3 has been added to the table
  • NEW Figure 3-13-6 List of APHIS-Approved Mexican Swine Processing Plants, Fresh Swine Meat - figure has been added

Appendix G Certificates and Permits

  • Page G-1-2 - chpater table of contents was updated
  • NEW Figure G-1-71 Annex to the Official Meat Inspection Certificate for Exporting Pork Products Processed in Mexico to the U.S. (page 1 of 2) - figure was added
  • NEW Figure G-1-72 Annex to the Official Meat Inspection Certificate for Exporting Pork Products Processed in Mexico to the U.S. (page 2 of 2) - figure was added

Appendix H List of Veterinarians

  • Page H-1-5 - information was corrected
