APHIS Updates PPQ Manuals for Jan. 18

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service announced changes Jan. 18 to Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) electronic manuals. While some changes are minor, other changes may affect the admissibility of the plant products, including fruits, vegetables, and flowers.

FAVIR and Fruits and Vegetables Manual: FAVIR (here) and the Fruits and Vegetables Manual (here) were revised. There were several reasons for the revisions:

  • Clarify the inspection procedures for all admissible bananas and plantains
  • Revise the inspection procedure for Fragrant Pears from China
  • Remove a papaya orchard, Zintahuayate, from the approved papaya orchard growers from Mexico
  • New market access for Sand Pears from China (Docket APHIS-2011-0007, effective 01-18-13)

**NOTE for Sand pears from China: At this time, import permits will NOT be issued for Sand Pears from China. Until program phytosanitary requirements described in 7 CFR 319.56-57 are finalized, Sand Pears from China will not be authorized entry into the United States.
