APHIS Updates PPQ Manuals for May 24

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service announced changes May 24 to Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) electronic manuals. While some changes are minor, other changes may affect the admissibility of the plant products, including fruits, vegetables, and flowers.

Manual for Agricultural Clearance: The online Manual for Agricultural Clearance (here) was revised to do the following:

  • Update the information on recycling materials by removing the word “aluminum” before the word “cans" in the first bullet at the top of page 3-1-5.
  • Remove sodium hypochlorite (household bleach) from Appendix G.

Changes are on the following pages:

  • Chapter 3: Examining Carriers: Section 1: Monitoring Garbage: Page 3-1-5.
  • Appendix G: Sources of Supply for Cleaning and Disinfecting Materials: Page G-1-1.

Cut Flowers and Greenery Manual: The online Cut Flowers and Greenery Import Manual (here) was revised to update the entry requirements for host plant material of citrus longhorned beetle and Asian longhorned beetle in accordance with Federal Order DA-2013-18, effective May 20, 2013. Changes, indicated by black change bars in the left page margins, are on the following pages:

  • Chapter 2: Procedures: Pages 2-8, 2-28, and 2-29.
  • Chapter 3: Reference: Pages 3-4 through 3-6, 3-15, 3-25, 3-32, 3-34, 3-36, 3-51, 3-54, and 3-58 through 3-61.
