APHIS Updates PPQ Manuals for June 19

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service announced changes June 19 to Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) electronic manuals. While some changes are minor, other changes may affect the admissibility of the plant products, including fruits, vegetables, and flowers.

Treatment Manual: The APHIS PPQ Treatment Manual (here) was revised. The reason for the revision was to add a new methyl bromide fumigation schedule for the treatment of Mediterranean fruit fly and South American fruit fly on blueberries. (Docket No. APHIS-2013-0007, effective June 18, 2013). The new schedule is T101-i-1-2 and can be found on page 5-2-8.

FAVIR and Fruits and Vegetables Manual: FAVIR (here) and the Fruits and Vegetables Manual (here) were revised. There were several reasons for the revision:

  • Added a new fumigation schedule (T101-i-1-2) for treating blueberries from South and Central American countries. The countries are Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Peru, and Uruguay. (Docket No. APHIS-2013-0007, effective June 18, 2013)
  • Corrected entries for chicory, endive, and Belgian endive from Belgium and the Netherlands
  • Revised the list of approved growers for papaya from Chiapas, Mexico.

In the Fruits and Vegetables Manual, changes are indicated by black change bars in the left margin on pages 3-21, 3-43, 3-79, 3-105, 3-139, 3-260, and 3-336.
