APHIS Updates PPQ Manuals for June 24

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service announced changes June 24 to Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) electronic manuals. While some changes are minor, other changes may affect the admissibility of the plant products, including fruits, vegetables, and flowers.

CITES Timber Manual: The CITES I-II-III Timber Species Manual (here) was updated, transmittal 06/2013-31, to add taxa that are now listed as CITES Appendix II and are used for timber and articles made of wood; and to remove those taxa from the CITES Appendix III. The revisions are effective as of June 12, 2013. Revisions, indicated by a black change bar in the left margin of each revised page, are as follows:

  • Page 2-5, 3-5: Changed total numbers of CITES-listed taxa; listed used lumber or other wood products; added Dalbergia spp. (populations of Madagascar); and Dalbergia cochinchinensis, Dalbergia granadillo, Dalbergia retusa, and Dalbergia stevensonii to CITES Appendix II Species
  • Page 2-6, 3-6: Added Diospyros spp. (populations of Madagascar); Osyris lanceolata, Prunus africana, and Senna meridionalis to CITES Appendix II Species
  • Page 2-10, 2-11, 3-10, 3-11: Added common names for new listings
  • Page 2-12, 3-13: Revised Aniba rosaeodora
  • Page 2-14: Added Dalbergia spp. and Dalbergia cochinchinensis as CITES Appendix II in Table 2-3
  • Page 2-15: Added Dalbergia darienensis and Dalbergia granadillo as CITES Appendix II in Table 2-3
  • Page 2-16: Added Dalbergia retusa and Dalbergia stevensonii as CITES Appendix II in Table 2-3
  • Page 2-17: Added Diospyros spp. as CITES Appendix II in Table 2-3
  • Page 2-18: Added Osyris lanceolata as CITES Appendix II in Table 2-3
  • Page 2-19: Added Prunus africana and Seena meridionalis as CITES Appendix II in Table 2-3
