USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service is delaying the effective date, originally set for Jan. 27, of a final rule on certain fees related to Section 8e import inspections, in response to a Jan. 20 presidential directive calling for federal agencies to further scrutinize new regulations, it said in a Federal Register notice.

The new effective date of the rule is March 20. The final rule was initially published in the Federal Register on Dec. 30 (see 2412270006).
AMS said the rule pertains to the inspection and certification of fresh fruits, vegetables and other products by amending certain fees charged for Section 8e import inspections. It changes Section 8e import inspection fees from a per-carlot basis to a per-pound basis, reduces the fee for each additional subplot by 50%, and establishes a new fee calculation for lots less than a carlot.
