Clear Terms

Search Primer

Multi-word term: Place inside quotes to ensure an exact match together (e.g. "China import").

Term list: Separate terms with spaces, not commas or semicolons to find either word (e.g. AD/CVD antidumping).

Acronyms: Use all capital letters (e.g., ACE).

Required term: If a term must be included in any resulting articles, prefix it with a plus sign (e.g., CBP +releases).

Excluded term: If a term should be excluded from any articles being found, prefix it with a minus sign (e.g., -ruling).

Singular form: Use the singular form when doing multi-word terms (e.g. "russian export control" instead of "russian export controls").

Shortest word form: When you have different word forms in a quoted term, include the shortest version if it is the last part of the expression (e.g., "entity list" instead of "entity listing" or "entity listed").

CBP Integrates Altana's Product Passports Offering in GBI Program

Product Passports, an AI-informed product offered by Altana, will be part of CBP's Global Business Identifier program, the company announced Oct. 1. The product allows companies to track their products' supply chains and share that information with CBP before manufacturing or arrival at the U.S. border, Altana said. "After that, future shipments of those goods can reference the Altana Product Passport ID in their customs filings, showing they have already been validated, similar to the Global Entry program, but for products. The system leads to faster customs clearance and fewer delays for trusted traders, while also helping CBP more effectively focus its enforcement efforts," it said.

CBP Issues Harmonized System Updates

CBP created Harmonized System Update 2536 on Sept. 25 (containing 86 Automated Broker Interface records and 19 Harmonized Tariff Schedule records) and Harmonized System Update 2537 on Sept. 26 (containing 36 ABI records and six HTS records). HSU 2536 includes the EU executive order tariff updates and the mushroom assessment increase. HSU 2537 includes a correction to the rates for mushroom fees.

New DHS Shutdown Plan Keeps Nearly All of CBP Working

The Department of Homeland Security posted a revised shutdown contingency plan over the weekend, and, although the plan says that responding to correspondence, long-term project management and developing products for programs that are in the works are not to happen during a shutdown, the only offices in CBP that are mentioned as having non-essential workers are the Office of the Chief Counsel and those who work in labor relations.
