Clear Terms

Search Primer

Multi-word term: Place inside quotes to ensure an exact match together (e.g. "China import").

Term list: Separate terms with spaces, not commas or semicolons to find either word (e.g. AD/CVD antidumping).

Acronyms: Use all capital letters (e.g., ACE).

Required term: If a term must be included in any resulting articles, prefix it with a plus sign (e.g., CBP +releases).

Excluded term: If a term should be excluded from any articles being found, prefix it with a minus sign (e.g., -ruling).

Singular form: Use the singular form when doing multi-word terms (e.g. "russian export control" instead of "russian export controls").

Shortest word form: When you have different word forms in a quoted term, include the shortest version if it is the last part of the expression (e.g., "entity list" instead of "entity listing" or "entity listed").

CBP Issues Guidance for Importation of Dogs

CBP released guidance Oct. 29 on the import of dogs, including an attachment listing applicable Harmonized Tariff Schedule subheadings, in an Oct. 29 cargo systems message. CBP said importers may contact the port of entry import specialist or entry specialist at the Agriculture and Prepared Products Centers of Excellence and Expertise for further information on entry procedures and requirements.

Software Developer Urges More Upstream Responses to Trade Compliance

As companies navigate the increasingly complex U.S. trade landscape, companies should "shift left" and adjust their trade compliance strategies so that potential compliance issues are caught upstream in areas such as sales, procurement and development before hitting the duty filing stage, a software developer said at the International Compliance Professionals Association conference in Grapevine, Texas, on Oct. 27.

CBP to Use Exiger's AI Trade Tool to Detect Illegal Transshipments, Enforce Trade Regs

CBP has awarded a multimillion-dollar contract to AI supply chain mapping technology firm Exiger to use its tools to detect illegal transshipment, the firm said an Oct. 28 press release. CBP also will use the software to monitor and enforce trade regulations; "deploy AI-enabled validations" of tariff classification, value and country of origin; map the flow of raw materials and sub-components through global supply chains; and create automated bills of materials for products and sub-components, the release said.

CBP Developing ACE Tool to Report 232 Value Content, Non-US Content for IEEPA Imports

CBP will add a new ACE Entry Summary record for reporting either the value content for aluminum, steel and copper imports or the non-U.S. content for imports subject to the duties levied under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, according to CBP's Development and Deployment Schedule for October. The agency began working on this enhancement this month, according to the schedule, which was announced via an Oct. 23 cargo systems message.
