As Kodak continues to shift its focus to digital imaging amid declining traditional film sales, the company Tues. announced a new operating model and executive team for its Digital Film & Imaging Systems (D&FIS) div. Kodak said the D&FIS business now represented 70% of its overall revenue. It said the move was designed “to accelerate Kodak’s growth strategies in consumer, professional and entertainment imaging as well as streamline operations, consistent with the digital strategy outlined to investors on Sept. 25 in New York City” (CED Sept 26 p3). Kodak said the new D&FIS division would consist of 7 key strategic product and service groups with the gen. mgr. of each reporting to D&FIS Pres. Bernard Masson, who said: “Our new operating model will enable us to stay ahead of changing technology while improving our focus on customer needs.” It said Matt Freund, pres. of the former Consumer Imaging products and services division, would retire March 1, 2004, while, as previously announced, Willy Shih, former pres. of Digital & Applied Imaging products and services, had been named pres.- Display & Components, and Karen Smith-Pilkington, pres. of the former Kodak Professional products and services division, would take on “a new leadership role within the company to be announced at a later time.”

Eastman Kodak will fall short of $500 million OLED sales targeted for 2005 as it ramps up production of active matrix displays, executives said in interviews at analyst conference in N.Y.C. Thurs. Kodak, which is developing OLEDs as part of SK Display joint venture with Sanyo, has had no problems with component assembly at factory in Japan, but needs to smooth out defects found in displays, Display & Components Pres.
