The Commerce Department will lead a trade mission to Central America in June 2015 to coincide with the Trade Americas - Opportunities in Central America Conference in Guatemala, it said in a notice issued June 22 (here). After the conference, participants will meet one-on-one with U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service officers from embassies in Central America, and will then have the option to engage in business-to-business appointments with companies in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Belize, or Nicaragua. Commerce is accepting applications on a rolling basis until March 20.
The Commerce Department signed a deal with the Mexican government on Dec. 19 to suspend its antidumping and countervailing duty investigations on sugar from Mexico, it said in a fact sheet on Dec. 19 (here). As a result, Commerce will no longer issue final antidumping or countervailing duty determinations in the case.

The Commerce Department is expanding national security controls in the Export Administration Regulations and limiting the use of license exceptions for dual-use military electronic exports and reexports to Hong Kong (here). Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security is implementing the new controls on Dec. 23, but a revision on monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) controls will take effect on Dec. 30, along with the Export Control Reform rule on military electronics (see 14070104). BIS is also adding a special condition for the Strategic Trade Authorization license exception. These changes follow a request for comments on MICC power amplifiers and discrete microwave transistors, both of which operate at frequencies exceeding 2.7 GHz (see 14063027). Comments to that request highlighted the civil uses of the MMIC products.
The Foreign-Trade Zones Board approved a request from the Port of Corpus Christi Authority to expand the service area of FTZ 122 to include Refugio County, Texas (here). The FTZ already includes Nueces, San Patricio, Aransas, Jim Wells, Kleberg and Bee Counties within its service area.
