The Commerce Department is accepting applications from trade shows for its International Buyer Program Select service. Under the program, Commerce recruits foreign buyers to U.S. trade shows to meet with U.S. suppliers. Applications for trade shows in 2015 are due May 9.

The Chattanooga Chamber Foundation submitted an application to the Foreign-Trade Zones Board to reorganize FTZ 134 under the Alternative Site Framework, and expand the zone to cover 11 counties in southeastern Tennessee, according to an FTZ Board Federal Register notice. Under the reorganization, the zone's service area would cover Hamilton, Marion, Grundy, Warren, Sequatchie, Bledsoe, Rhea, Meigs, Bradley, Polk and McMinn Counties. The proposed reorganization under the "Alternative Site Framework would streamline processes for the designation of new FTZ subzones and usage driven sites within that service area by allowing companies to request zone status through the relatively simple "minor boundary modification" process. Comments on the application are due by June 2.
The Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) is penalizing Arkema Rotterdam $16,000 for reexporting 33 long tons of ethyl mercaptan from the Netherlands to Syria without the required U.S. government authorization, in violation of the Export Administration Regulations. The alleged reexport occurred in July 2009, according to BIS. Arkema Rotterdam allegedly ordered the ethyl mercaptan from a partner company in the U.S., and did not inform the company the product would be reexported to Syria.
