The Foreign Trade Zones Board issued the following notices for Sept. 3:
The President’s Export Council will hold a meeting Sept. 19 at 9:30 a.m. EDT in Washington, D.C. The group will discuss priorities for the 9th World Trade Organization Ministerial Conference; forced localization policies; government procurement; de minimis reform; intellectual property protections in the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement; expansion of the Information Technology Agreement; and export control reform. U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker announced Aug. 27 that $15 million in Economic Development Administration grants will support manufacturers affected by imports and help them adjust to increasing global competition and creating jobs. The grants will fund programs for improvements in areas like quality control and will go towards 11 Trade Adjustment Assistance Centers (TAACs) located in California and Illinois, among other states, Pritzker said.
The Foreign Trade Zones Board issued the following notices for Aug. 28:
Ontario County in New York is asking the Foreign-Trade Zones Board for permission to establish a third FTZ near the port of Rochester, according to a Federal Register notice set for publication Aug. 28. The zone would be established under the alternative site framework (ASF), which allows for quicker designation of subzones and usage driven sites. It would include in its service area Ontario, Wayne, Seneca, Yates, Steuben, and Livingston Counties, New York. The two existing zones at the port of Rochester, FTZ 141 and FTZ 284, include Monroe and Genesee Counties, respectively. Comments on the application are due by Oct. 28.
The Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security issued on Aug. 26 notices of partially closed meetings to be held on Sept. 10 and Sept. 11. On Sept. 10 at 9 a.m., the bureau’s Regulations and Procedures Technical Advisory Committee (RPTAC) will meet to discuss updates to Export Enforcement, Regulations and the Automated Export System. The meeting (here) will be held in the Herbert C. Hoover Building in Washington D.C. The open session will be accessible via teleconference to 25 participants on a first-come, first-served basis. A limited number of seats will be available for the public session and reservations are not accepted.
The Committee for the Implementation of Textile Agreements added certain polyester/nylon cut corduroy fabric to the list of items not available in commercial quantities in a timely manner under Annex 3.25 of the Dominican Republic-Central America-U.S. Free Trade Agreement Implementation Act (CAFTA-DR). The fabric, which is classified in subheading 5801.32 of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule, was added in unrestricted quantities. Effective Aug. 27, this corduroy fabric may be sourced from outside the DR-CAFTA member countries without affecting eligibility for DR-CAFTA treatment.
