CBP recently updated FAQs to reflect changes last month to the Air Cargo Advance Screening (ACAS) Implementation Guide 2408220009). The update entails additional codes that would need to be completed by filers responsible for air cargo shipments originating from outside the U.S., starting in early September (see 2408270026). The National Customs Brokers & Forwarders Association of America sent an emailed alert to its members about the release of the updated FAQs.
CBP implemented on Sept. 4 a nationwide rejection of vague descriptions in Air Cargo Advance Screening (ACAS). The agency won't issue rejections during a 30-day warning period that runs through Oct. 6. Rejections will be effective Oct. 7, CBP said in a Sept. 5 cargo systems message.
CBP needs to improve its oversight of penalty cases, including more consistent oversight of its Fines, Penalties and Forfeitures field offices, so that CBP is more effective in collecting penalty revenue, DHS' Office of Inspector General recommended in a Sept. 3 report on its audit of CBP.
The Fish and Wildlife Service is removing the Apache trout (Oncorhynchus apache), a fish native to Arizona, from the Endangered Species List, it said in a final rule released Sept. 5. An FWS review indicated that “threats to the Apache trout have been eliminated or reduced to the point that the species no longer meets the definition of an endangered or threatened species," the agency said. The delisting takes effect Oct. 7.
The Department of Labor's Bureau of International Labor Affairs (ILAB) has 72 additions to its list of goods that could potentially be produced by forced labor or child labor, including a record 37 new goods that have not previously been identified as involving labor exploitation, ILAB said Sept. 5 in its latest edition of the List of Goods Produced by Child Labor or Forced Labor.
