Section 301 tariff exclusions

The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative has established an exclusion process for Section 301 tariffs on China. In a series of rounds since the tariffs took effect, importers have been able to request exclusions from the tariffs, as well as extensions to existing exclusions. Many exclusions have been allowed to expire, as well. Section 301 exclusions are applicable to all importers of a given good, which may be defined as an entire tariff schedule subheading or a subset of a subheading outlined in a written description.

Clear Terms

Search Primer

Multi-word term: Place inside quotes to ensure an exact match together (e.g. "China import").

Term list: Separate terms with spaces, not commas or semicolons to find either word (e.g. AD/CVD antidumping).

Acronyms: Use all capital letters (e.g., ACE).

Required term: If a term must be included in any resulting articles, prefix it with a plus sign (e.g., CBP +releases).

Excluded term: If a term should be excluded from any articles being found, prefix it with a minus sign (e.g., -ruling).

Singular form: Use the singular form when doing multi-word terms (e.g. "russian export control" instead of "russian export controls").

DOE Amends Energy Conservation Standards for Commercial Refrigeration Equipment

The U.S. Department of Energy is adopting new and amended energy conservation standards for commercial refrigeration equipment. DOE says the new and amended energy conservation standards would result "in significant conservation of energy and are technologically feasible and economically justified." This final rule is effective March 18. Commercial refrigerators, freezers and refrigerator freezers must be compliant with the final rule starting on Jan. 22, 2029, DOE said in a Federal Register notice.

ITC Ends Investigation on Photovoltaic Connectors After Finding No 337 Violation

The International Trade Commission has ended a Section 337 investigation on imported photovoltaic connectors (ITC Inv. No. 337-TA-1365), it said in a Federal Register notice to be published Jan. 21. Complainant Shoals Technologies Group initially alleged in 2023 that Hikam, a California-based photovoltaic cable company, and Hewtech, a Chinese electronics firm, along with their affiliated companies, were importing photovoltaic connectors for solar panels that infringe two of Shoals' patents (see 2306080003).
